10 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO PROMOTE YOUR BLOG POSTS

Hello Everyone,

So I am back again and this time I decided to write about some blogging tips and what has helped me so far. I am not yet a pro blogger but with patience and determination, maybe one day. If you have just started blogging or are thinking about doing so, then this post right here will be of some help to you. If you don’t have a blog yet, what you waiting for? Here is a simple guide to help you start one. Okay, so you now have a blog and are writing posts and coming up with content every week or some even everyday, but what’s next after doing all that? Well I am here to tell you that I have 10 effective ways to promote your blog posts so that you can get yourself out there, gain some traffic and increase your page views every other day.

10 EFFECTIVE WAYS TO PROMOTE YOUR BLOG POSTS

1. HAVE QUALITY CONTENT

In order for you to be able to promote your blog posts, you need to start from the beginning and make sure that you have quality content. Don’t just write for the sake of writing or because you need to publish a post on a specific day. Even if you miss your publishing day, you reschedule until you have quality content and ask yourself, is what your writing going to help your audience in any way or at least be entertaining? Are you writing within your niche or just all over the place? What types of blog posts generate more traffic? Once you have the quality down, we can now move on to the next point.

2. HAVE SHARING ICONS

So you’ve  written and published great quality content and now you need to be able to put them out there for others to see but there’s no way of doing that in your posts. For your content to be able to reach others, you need them to be shareable and that requires having sharing icons in your blog posts. Make your readers be able to share some of your content to other platforms once they finish reading them and even for you to share them too across different types of platforms out there. There are many plugins that help with that and so it shouldn’t be difficult to install them. Plus the more platforms the better, just remember not to get over yourself by choosing too many that you can’t even manage.

3.WORD OF MOUTH

You’ve heard the phrase if you build it they will come, but I am here to tell you that’s not going to happen through osmosis or in some sort of magic way. Start by telling your friends and family that you have posts up and that you even started a blog just in case they don’t know yet. Also they will be able to tell you their honest opinions on what they think about it and make you know where and what to improve on and how to make your posts even better and engaging. Here are some of the mistakes I made before launching my blog, which may help you if you haven’t read them yet.

4. USING SOCIAL MEDIA

We all know by now that social media is taking over and it’s where everyone is or hangs out these days. If you haven’t opened accounts on social media and are planning to promote your blog posts, well you’re missing out on putting your content out there. Also I just might say the word “content” 39876543 times in this blog post so bear with me. Social media helps you promote your blog posts effectively from the day you publish, to when your planning to, even before you come up with the posts, it helps you to tell your followers what’s coming and what’s next which is sort of marketing/promoting before it hits the shelves. So go on and start opening those accounts be it Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Stumbleupon, Medium, so on and so forth. There are so many, so choose what you can handle and start engaging.

5. TAG PEOPLE/SITES

Another way to be able to promote your blog posts is that if you are writing about a particular subject or topic and you have a specific person or site that relates to that or interests you, tagging them or mentioning their sites within your posts is really helpful because they will get to see who tagged them and end up seeing what you wrote about thus being able to get views to your post just by doing that. That’s why as I said above, social media is really helpful because it does make tagging people and sites way easier. Just be careful on how you mention the people and don’t steal material, if you want to include someone else’s content please do ask first before getting yourself in trouble.

6.INTERLINK WITHIN POSTS

Just as tagging people in your posts helps to promote your content, so does interlinking other blog posts you have written before within your posts. If they are related or can help the reader understand something you were discussing even more, then do drop the link within that specific blog post and remember to make it open in a different tab in order not to lose your reader’s attention and make them stay longer which does help when it comes to bounce rates and all which is a plus. More on what you should include in every blog post can be found here. So don’t forget people, interlink your blog posts in order to effectively promote them.

7. SHAREABLE IMAGES

As much as your content is important, so are your images. I mean if you’re a food blogger or travel blogger or any other, your images do end up relating to your content and speaks to the reader more and so being able to share those images to other platforms helps to redirect someone back to your site. Be sure to make any of your images shareable because as we all know when it comes to Pinterest and Instagram, images do matter and helps to bring in traffic to your blog because it’s all about visual appeal. Remember to have shareable images with the help of plugins and make sure the alternative text links back to your site, tips on using Pinterest effectively as a beginner can be found here.

8. JOIN GROUPS/TRIBES

In relation to using social media, don’t just have an account and do nothing. Once you get there you need to start joining groups or tribes of like minded people from blogging groups to tribes when it comes to tailwind because it’s great when it’s time to promote your blog posts within them plus there are so many awesome  groups and other bloggers out there who are willing to help you and read your content because I am sure it will interest someone one way or another. So don’t just use social media for your personal use but for also promoting your blog posts by the use of groups, tribes and even pods.

9. GUEST POSTING

Guest posting is one of those things whereby if done right, can really be effective to promoting your content. This right here not only helps with the promoting aspect but it also helps to increase traffic to your site if you are having troubles with that. Once you’ve gotten into a rhythm with your blogging and have everything planned right, you can decide to start guest posting in other sites and you not only get to meet and converse with other great bloggers but you get to help each other by promoting each others’ posts and blogs which is a win win situation.

10. HAVING NEWSLETTERS

If you’ve been blogging for a while now or just getting started, then you’ve probably heard about newsletters. These are usually used and sent when you have a new post up or need to inform your subscribers what has been going on lately within your blog, what’s yet to come, and if you have a freebie or checklist available for them. Sort of an informational mail that you send to your readers who if you’re lucky are your subscribers too. So remember that newsletters are also another effective way to promote your blog posts.

Finally guys, that’s it. I’ve given you my 10 effective ways to promote your blog posts and I do hope they help someone whose been having problems with just that. 16. I think I needed to see this as I had a moment of frustration with blogging just this week lol. I have also learned though that sometimes you have to stay in your own lane and stop comparing yourself against the someone else that you perceive to be more successful than you are. One thing I need to work on is the guest posting and newsletters better than I have thus far. Thank you for sharing these tips!

    1. You are so welcome, don’t let others take you down, they might seem successful but their journey is different. Take your time be you stay true to yourself and your time will come, it never fails what’s meant for you may take time but at the end it does arrive. Enjoy your journey stop comparing yourself to others, you are unique in your own way.

  17. As someone who is looking to grow my blog, this was really really helpful! Thank you for posting this and sharing the wisdom!

  18. I agree that tagging people, particularly on Instagram is a great way to gain visibility. I wish someone had told me that the promotional side of blogging took as much time (or more) as the creative and writing aspects haha!

  19. I do like how bloggers are supporting each other and helping one another grow through Facebook groups. I am also keen on guest posting, I think it’s a great way of getting your audience to find out about other bloggers.

  20. These are good tips. I do all of these things but guest post. I am just not sure how to get that gig. I am very picky about who I have on my blog. And I have only been blogging 6 most. No one has asked me. I would love more suggestions on how to do this exactly.

    1. I understand, I am also picky but once you get to know more about other bloggers within your niche and whose work impress you, then you can reach out and ask for a guest post or even offer to do one for them.

  21. Sharing from various Facebook groups also helps! And the traditional word-of-mouth still works on me. Sometimes during events, I gave our flyers 😀 hahaha

  22. This is very helpful especially for a new blogger like me. You’re right there is no magic ingredient. It’s really all about hard work and determination. Thank you for sharing your tips.

  23. I don’t understand how can you tagg a website in your blog post…? Other than adding the url, but that won’t let the owner know…

    Otherwise, great tips!

    1. Mostly if your mentioning a blogger you can tag their blog then go back to social media and tag them too which would make them know you mentioned them.

  24. I’m a blogger too and I definitely think these are great tips! For me Pinterest is the best source of traffic

  25. these are all wonderful tips and some I think even experienced bloggers we sometimes forget. I have being doing more guest blog post and it does increase your traffic. thanks!

  26. These are some amazing tips. As a blogger I know how hard it can be to get your blog the traffic you want and I have truly struggled. I plan on incorporating some of your tips into what I am already doing! Thanks alot!

  27. most of the points you’ve mentioned on this post work effectively for me too, since i’m quite new to join the blogging communities. however, i’m still yet to work on a few of them for some reason.

i’m personally still considering to start a newsletter, because from my point of view as a subscriber, i’m not a big fan of it myself so yeah… maybe it takes time for me to get there. 😛

also, i’m trying to separate what i blog about with the people that i know in real life. i mean, in the end they know that i have a blog and apparently some of them are my frequent readers as well. but i don’t really promote my blog to them personally.

i mean, if i got some input, feedback or critics from some people we don’t know personally, that would be better. but i once heard this from someone i know personally, and i’m not really comfortable with it because then it creates border on what i want to write and what i end up writing, if you know what i mean. i don’t know if it’s just me though. 😐

    1. You might just be overthinking it, and maybe feedback from people you know may be more useful if you don’t take criticism too seriously.

  28. Thank you for a great list, its amazing to find blogs with share icons today.

  29. These are great tips, most of which I did not know about. I’m fairly new to blogging and could use all the help in promoting my blog that I can get. Thank you!

  30. Great tips, especially the newsletter! I always tell everyone to start a newsletter the same time they start their blog. Gather sign up’s from day one becuase you never know when one of your social media accounts may be removed, which means you loose all contact with your followers unless you have a newsletter!

  31. Great tips! These are definitely ones in here that I could be doing to step it up a notch!

  32. Good tips! I want to start a newsletter but the idea of coming up with another piece of creative content regularly makes me shy away from it.

  33. Great tips! You could write a whole post about each one of these I would guess. Personally, I haven’t started the newsletter one yet–waiting for that detailed blog post:)

  34. These are great tips! I do a newsletter off and on but I find it so hard to stick with. I thought blogging was hard to stick with at first but now I LOVE blogging so maybe it’ll turn around for me.

  35. These are some great tips Joan and I am doing some of them and they do help. Thanks for sharing and reminding us of how to strategically get ahead in this blogging world.

  36. All of your points are right on target! This would be such a good read especially for a new blogger. Interlinking is definitely key, once you get someone on your website you don’t want them to just be able to click away!

  37. Yup, I do a bunch of these. Tribes are so helpful, that’s for sure. I also share on social media and hope for the best.

  38. These are some great tips and I try and do as many of them as much as I can. Though I really need to think about writing guest posts more.

  39. I was thinking of taking my blog to the same level but I am reluctant for guest posting coz it might not be in line with what I do but I am always open for possibilities.

  40. These all sound like great ideas. I am new to blogging so I will consider these tips to promote my blog.

  41. Social media has played a big role in content sharing. And it’s always important to have a good blog headline get everyone’s attention. After all, what is a good post if no one’s gonna read it.

  42. I really needed to see this today! I don’t actually have a newsletter but I’m so encouraged to start one! Thank you Joan

  47. These are some wonderful tips! It can be so hard to know the best ways to promote yourself, but you are so right! Content is such a big thing!

  48. These are super helpful tips! I absolutely agree with the sharing icon. I HATE when I find a blog post I absolutely love and want to share with the world but they have no sharing icons. Its a bit frustrating. I would also add consistency to the list. I’ve found I always have more engagement when I post consistently (even though I’m super bad at it).

  49. This is a pretty thorough list with good explanations. I would just add make sure your blog is asthetically appealing to visitors. Some bloggers over do the ads. Some bloggers designs are not very appealing.

  50. This was great! I’m just getting started on a blog myself so this was very informative and useful. Definitely some areas I need to work on!

  52. I’ve had a my blog for a little over a year and have just now started doing many of the things you have suggested. Instead of getting a couple hundred views a month, I’m now getting thousands. The biggest change that I have done has been joining like groups. Friends and family can only support you so much so join groups!

  53. These are really helpful ideas. I link to sites as often as I can as well as link to my own posts. I’m going to definitely try your other suggest as well. I would love more quality traffic to my posts.

  54. I do really need to do more to tag others and promote more people. I think that helps a lot when getting your work out there. The right set of eyes viewing your materials helps so much.

  55. These are helpful tips! A really good content is great. Sharing it on social medias will surely help a lot.

  56. These are fantastic ways to get more blog traffic! I especially love having shareable images. I can’t tell you how many blog posts that I’ve wanted to share, but the blogger never created any images to share it.
