HOW TO MAKE TRADITIONAL FLAPJACKS

Breakfast on the go

What comes to mind when you hear “Breakfast on the go” for me, it’s either sandwiches, a cereal bar, or maybe a smoothie. For a long time, I used to call anything made from oats an oat bar, it doesn’t matter to me, if it has oats it’s just an oat bar to me. Then I heard about flap jacks which I call granola bars now and I think will I stick to that because it just doesn’t matter. So today I have for you this recipe on how to make traditional flapjacks. For the ingredients you will need;

Ingredients

  • 400gms Jumbo oats
  • 200gms butter
  • 150gms demerara sugar
  • 4tbsp golden syrup
  • Zest one orange
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 100gms raisins
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

METHOD

  • Preheat your oven to 170℃ fan assisted/190℃ conventional oven/375℉ 
  • In a saucepan, add your butter, sugar, cinnamon, orange zest and golden syrup.
  • Place on moderate heat, to melt and combine.
  • Stir gently as it melts until the sugar dissolves.
  • Once melted, remove from heat and stir in your vanilla extract.
  • Then add your oats, and raisins and mix to combine until well coated.
  • Pour into a well-greased and lined baking tray and make sure to level it out.
  • Using a spoon, press gently to flatten and make it even.
  • Into the oven for 20 minutes, then remove and let it cool before slicing.
  • Cut into cubes or rectangles.
  • Serve and enjoy.
