9 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR EXERCISE ROUTINE LAST

Hello everyone,

It’s been more than a month since I have been here and as much I wanted to keep going, life happens and I had to take a break. Corona hit me for a while then kids got sick and everything was just up in the air and I had no other choice but to be away for some time. Anyway, I decided to come back today and finish some of the posts I had and just try and get back on it. Since we are past new year resolutions and all, I have decided that watching my health and getting a routine down is the only way to go and so today I have for you 9 tips to make your exercise routine last and help reach your health goals this year.

9 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR EXERCISE ROUTINE LAST

1. MAKE A COMMITMENT

First things first, make a commitment to yourself that no matter what you’re going to do, you will stick to it and not be discouraged along the way which tends to happen. Just commit to what you have decided to be doing and that’s one thing that will help make it last.

2. SCHEDULE IT

Make sure to schedule it in order not to come up with excuses on why not to do it. Schedule it in your routine just as you would schedule a meeting or an appointment and that way, no matter what happens you know that it’s in your routine and something you have to do.9 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR EXERCISE ROUTINE LAST

 3. TELL PEOPLE

Another tip to make your exercise routine last is to tell people, be it at home or on social media. Be able to update them and keep them in the know whenever you hit your goals. Mentioning your progress to others will help your routine last.

4. PRIORITISE IT

Something may come up making you want to think it’s better to skip a workout or two due to it being a higher priority but if you keep on letting that happen, there’s no way your routine would last. Don’t skip it just because you think something else is important. Make your exercise routine just as important and a priority too in order for it to last.

5. HAVE/CREATE ACCOUNTABILITY

Going to the gym and having a trainer or gym buddy does make you accountable to be able to stick to it. If not at the gym, just having a training partner or one you do exercises with together is the best way to make your routine stick and keep you accountable to each other hence making it hard to break your commitment.

6. SET MEASURABLE GOALS

Depending on what your goal is be it weight loss, toning or overall health. If you set a measurable goal, you will be able to see the growth and chart your progress as you continue on your path. You need to know your final goal for you to see your progress and if what you’re doing is working or you need to make any changes. Also, don’t be too strict on yourself, any progress is progress at the end of it all. Have weekly targets and aim for them.

7. SET EXPECTATIONS

Just as I said above, your measurable goals will help with your expectations. We would all like to lose as much or achieve goals faster but you need to be realistic and set your expectations accordingly in order not to be disappointed if it doesn’t happen. Know that it may take longer than expected and that is also fine. If you set your expectations in a realistic manner, you will end up sticking to your exercise routine and making it last.

We all know life happens and something may come up that would derail you from sticking to your exercise routine. That’s why having great time management and choosing the right time to include your exercise routine is the only way to make it last and stick. Make sure to choose the right time to do it and that’s why scheduling it as I said before really helps.

9. ENJOY IT

Lastly, enjoy it. There is no better way to put it but if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, you will likely not want to do it again. Try and find exercises that you like and ones that don’t make you think you rather die than do it. Yes, I do know when starting out, that’s probably what you will be saying for a while but it does get better. So try and enjoy your exercises in order for the whole routine to last and you achieve your final goals.

That’s it for today, 9 tips to make your exercise routine last. It’s a challenge for many people who are beginning but that doesn’t mean it’s not doable.
