5 REASONS WHY YOUR BLOG MIGHT FAIL

So you’ve read all about starting a blog, decided to start one and are now publishing  posts every week hoping and wishing that everything works out fine and that you will not regret your decision. We all hope for the best in our blogging endeavours but you also come to realise real quick that blogging does take a lot of work and planning. This can either be a good or bad thing for you depending on where you want to take your blog and how serious you are about it. So I came on here today to give you 5 reasons why your blog might fail and see if any of them apply to you.

5 reasons why your blog might fail

As I said before,

There is a lot of planning and work involved when it comes to blogging and as much as I would want to sugar coat it and say we will all make it, I can’t because that would depend on whether or not you came into it for the right reasons or not. So without rumbling anymore, let me just get into it and start with the first reason.

1. MONEY ON THE BRAIN

If you’re on Pinterest or any social media platform you have probably seen statements like “How I made $5000 in one month blogging” or something that says that someone even made more than that. I am not saying they are lies, I’m just saying that it didn’t happen overnight and if it did, I would be happily sipping on a exotic cocktail on a beach somewhere enjoying some of the money a year of blogging has given me and waiting for my next pay to arrive. But sadly, I AM NOT, so if you started your blog all because you thought you would be making thousands within months then I am sorry to tell you this but just stop and get something better to do because it will not happen that soon and you are bound for failure.

2. NOT PASSIONATE

Another reason why blogs fail is that you are not passionate about what you are writing or are just doing it for the sake of it. If that’s the case then you will not reach a year or even six months without feeling burnt out or just wanting to give up. I mean if you’re doing it as a hobby then don’t let me bother you go straight ahead and read something else. You need to really love the thought of blogging, be it the writing, coming up with ideas, editing your content and overall just have an excitement when doing it in order for you to go further and make your blog succeed.

3. FOLLOWING THE CROWD

This is that reason where you just decide to start a blog because you have a friend who is a blogger or you have been seeing blogs all over and decide that, if they can do it, why can’t I? Well of course you can but in order for your blog not to fail, you need to go into it for you and not because you’re comparing yourself with someone else. Also you need to have really thought about it and have planned on it and that’s where my previous point on passion comes in. Be noticed as a blogger because you did it for yourself and by yourself and not because others are doing it.

4.NOT DOING ENOUGH RESEARCH

I don’t think there is a stop when it comes to researching anything, and even with blogging make sure to cover your bases on how to, what to/not to and what comes next, what niche you will be in, your content and what you have to offer your readers because we all know that content is key both for increase in page views and success. When I started blogging, I thought I had read everything I needed to know about it, but even with that, I still made mistakes before launching and had to learn from them and keep on researching whilst still blogging. When you see a blog failing, it’s either not having done enough research, content that’s not good enough or plainly not caring at all. Blogging is always a learning process, for me anyway.

5.LACK OF PATIENCE

My last reason, is kinda like an obvious one, if you are an impatient person and still think that your blog is going to succeed overnight then you have another thing coming. You need to have lots of patience because it takes time and lots of work either early mornings or late nights and all day sometimes. So don’t just start a blog if you know that you can’t give it time to see where it goes, it doesn’t matter if it takes months or even years, stay with it and continue working on it and you will get there. Having patience gives you time to think what to do with your blog and how far you want to take it plus you get to learn from other bloggers which will help throughout your journey. So remember, patience is a key reason for your blog not to fail.

So there you go, those are my 5 reasons why your blog might fail, if you missed my post on what makes me not to stay and read your blog, find it here and if you’re still figuring out whether or not you should start a blog, here is a simple beginner’s guide to do so.  Thank you for stopping by and until next time, do tell me in the comments below what do you think cause blogs to fail?

  1. Hi! I think #2 is the most powerful reason. If I love what I’m doing nothing else really matters. I’ve been caught up in stats a few times, but it makes me unhappy to worry too much about it. Better to just do what I love to do. Every eyeball on my words is a gift. Thanks for the post!

    1. You’re welcome, it can sometimes be destructing, but sticking to what made you start a blog in the first place makes it all worth it.

  2. All of this is so true! You can really tell the people to are really in it because they love it, too. How you approach your blog is reflected in your writing, and your readers can pick up on that.

  3. I think the money thing and lack of patience is what get most people. They see the appeal and they think it’s an easy way to make money when in reality, it’s the exact opposite. You’ve actually got to love what you’re doing and have patience with it to stick around and grow your audience!

  4. I’ve had my blog around 2 1/2 months, and I love it. And it is a whole lot of work. It’s pretty much another job on top of my full time job. But I’ve always loved writing, I’m a storyteller. And I’ve always wanted to be published, so this is my passion. Plus, I love to help others. Wish I’d started earlier.

  5. This is definitely an accurate list! I know people that get into it for money or “free stuff” that quit when they realize it is work. It certainly requires a bit of passion!

  6. Patience is key. I have been blogging six years, and while I did start to make a little more money at the end, it wasn’t enough. I had to pay bills so now it’s been to hard to keep up w/the blogging full time, putting me back at square one if I would want to get back to that point again (or maybe square two…still a hard place to be).

  7. You are so write. To tell you the truth it has taken me a year to come to these conclusions. I was writing just to write, just to make money… just to this or just to that. Then I realized those things were not making me happy when it came to my blog and now I’m writing about things that I truly care about and I am genuine and I am being me and real! And I am much happy for it.

    1. That’s great, we do get to learn from the mistakes we’ve done and always find a way to correct them. I’m happy for you now that you have found the right way to blog your way.

  8. Well, these are true reasons. I think if you’re not passionate on what you do, you won’t really succeed.

  9. Putting money first and not passionate enough about blogging is an express road to failure. Thanks a lot for sharing this cause it’s the nitty gritty of blogging.

  10. Yes yes yes!!! I’m beyond bored of people who start a blog purely for the sake of the money aspect, and then wonder why they’re not getting what they want within a matter of minutes. I have never made a single penny from my blog and frankly I don’t care if that never happens, I write because I love it!

    1. So true, it’s all in the passion aspect of blogging, be it as a hobby or for the love of it, just do it for you, if you get money doing it then it’s a bonus.

  11. i agree with this 100% especially as a new blogger here. i think being passionate is very important as a blogger and for your audience, for the blogger to be happy and to gain audience loyalty.

    1. Congrats on starting a blog, all you have to do is just enjoy the journey and if the money comes later then that’s a bonus but not something that will make you be annoyed about it if it doesn’t happen.

  12. I think not being dedicated is another reason a blog might fail. You have to stick at it, even if yofeel like you’re not getting anywhere with it! x

  13. It certainly takes a lot of patience, and I think my previous blogs have been too narrowly focused. As a lifestyle blogger, I am more able to write lots of things that interest me. Thanks for the insight.

  14. Money on the brain is such an important one. People often focus on how to monetize before they have even built an audience.

  15. I’ve had a lot of failed blogs, and many of those because of some of the reasons you listed. I think I just had this vision that I would be the next blog star straight away, and lost interest when it didn’t go as well as I had hoped it would.

I actually launched a new blog yesterday, and it took me months to plan it. I think this time around, the most important thing for me was to create a mind-set of how blogging would just be a fun hoppy for me. I love writing and photography, so it is a great creative outlet for me.

  16. I left a career that was no longer serving me and started my blog a year later. I started it with the intent of it becoming a full time career, but I also went in knowing it could take 3-5 years for that to happen. Luckily, I had money saved up so that I could put all my time into it. Here I am three years later and it pretty much supports me. That came with a lot of hard work and effort!

  17. Money on the brain is a big one! And blogging is such a pain sometimes, we need to be passionate about it. The ones that aren’t passionate and committed usually fail pretty quickly

  18. It’s helpful for new bloggers to keep in mind that blogging is a journey, and if you want to make a sustainable income you have to go all in. And that often means working a 12-hour day six days a week. While the front end of a blog may give the impression that blogging is easy work, it’s not. There is so much going on off-page that takes up a lot time that most people just don’t know about. There is a huge learning curve for discovering how to blog effectively and developing strategies, but if the passion and determination are there bloggers can make their income dreams come true!

  19. Following the crowd is never the best way unless the crowd has the exact same passions as you.

  20. Yes these are all so true, especially #1 and 2. We must have passion and not just be money hungry.

  21. Yes, patience is so important. I rebranded this year and my stats were stuck. Then over the summer after revamping some posts I saw progress. Nothing happens overnight

  22. You’ve mentioned some really important reasons as to why blogs fail and what you shouldn’t have on your mind when starting one.

  23. Your post is spot on! I’ve struggled with all of these things in the past and am truly trying to write for me now and not worry about everything else. Great post!

  24. Lack of patience is huge! A lot of new bloggers seem to think they should be getting 10,000 page views within the first three months but thats just not reality. It takes time, dedication and patience!

  25. There’s so much more to blogging than just writing a post and publishing it. I think these are accurate. You can’t just start a blog and that’s it. It’s important to work hard on it and be patient.

  26. I so agree with this list! I am never about the money. I love to write, so that’s why I blog. Patience is also important too!

  27. I couldn’t agree with you more about reasons why a blog can fail. In this day and age making a blog successful takes time, dedication and creativity. You can never expect instant success when it comes to blogging.

  28. I couldn’t agree with you more when comes to reasons why a blog can fail. In and age creating a successful blog takes time and dedication. It is definitely not for the faint of heart and perseverance is what will make you successful

  29. PATIENCE. For sure and I always tell people if you are starting for money then don’t do it. if you are doing it becasue you love it then go for it. i started blogging because I wanted to share my story with mental health and hopefully inspired others, I was then able to tie in my love for cooking, I went to culinary school after all.

  30. All valid points! You got to do it for the right reasons and be willing to put in a lot of effort.. Consistently over time! Oh and of course – patience!

  31. These are some great tips! Pinterest can real make you feel a bit down when you see all these people making crazy amount, but they are exception and I think we need to remember that.

  32. Thank you for sharing this post. I know so many bloggers who are 100% focused on making money and forget that there needs to be a passion for writing, developing content and an understanding behind what it means to promote your work. Not many people understand this and they often fail (give up, really).

  33. Being money hungry can definetly deter your chances of creating a sucessful blog, I totally agree. Also passion is very important. Thanks for shairng.

  34. I absolutely love this post and how truthful it is. I always give new bloggers the advice that you must be passionate and I also feel that those who aren’t cannot succeed because it is such a complex thing to do. Blogging takes lots of patience and hard work

  35. Wonderful article! This post can be very useful, especially for novice bloggers. Many people think that blogging is just keeping a diary. Over time, the blog develops into a serious occupation that even business. You have to work hard to have a good blog.

  36. These are such great points! I think if your posts aren’t written from an authentic place, people will see through it and not find your blog interesting.

  37. Slow clap of applause for this post. I think so many people are becoming bloggers only to get MONEY and not enough passion, that has to stop.

  38. You definitely have to be doing it for the right reasons, and patience is definitely key. It’s a lot of work, but all worth it in the end for me!

  39. Great list! All of these are the right reasons. Great job you have. Thanks for sharing.

  40. this is a good list, I think passion is what you need the most. If you are passionate about something you will do everything to make it work!

  41. Passion is really important. I agree that one should not try blogging just to earn money, it takes hard work and dedication to achieve success in this field.

  42. There’s no doubt that blogging takes time and patience. You can’t also start a blog just because you want to earn, that’s definitely going to be the start of your downfall.

  43. I started a blog because I have a burning passion for writing, reading and telling my stories to others.I will admit that it is a lot of work. Your suggestions are great and I agree with them. Being patient for me is key.

  44. This is true. Patenice is very much needed. Ours is a new blog and I can really use these tips. Thanks for sharing!

  45. Very interesting article. It is so true Passion is a driving force that pushes blogger to the next level. Without passion, it is not possible to succeed in the blogging world. The important is you love what you are doing

  46. This is so true! If you aren’t doing it for the love of it then you’re certainly setting yourself up for a lot of disappointment.

  47. I suppose it does depend on what you’re in it for, e.g. My blog will never make any money but I have other success metrics that I strive to achieve.

Your post is accurate though, especially about the passion needed. In my case, not to write content but to promote it so it’s actually read.

  48. So many great tips! I agree with every one of them. Patience being a big one. Blogging isn’t an overnight thing. Especially if your end goal is to turn it into a business. It takes time to grow and really build that community.

  49. These are all great points! I think a lot of people see the glamorous side of blogging on social media and give up when it doesn’t come quick. There’s so much that it takes to get to that point, but it’s all worth it if you keep going and persist!

  50. These are all great points, recently I haven’t really felt super motivated to blog and want to change my niche to something completely different. Hopefully changing to something I actually want to post about will help!

  51. I feel good after reading your tips! I absolutely love blogging! I feel like sitting and writing daily has completely changed my life for the better. I would love followers and wouldn’t mind an income stream at some later point, but right now I just love the process. When I am not working, blogging or tending to my kids, I am you tubing videos, and learning everything I can, and lastly, I don’t think I could be just like everyone else if I tried. 😀
    Thanks for the tips!
You have done a great job branding yourself, because even though I have been all over the place for the last few weeks, your face and blog is one I recognize. Great job and thanks!

  52. I am with you on all of these – it can be so easy to fall into the same line as everyone else you need to make yourself stand out and you need to make a name for yourself before the pennies come rolling in too!

  53. You have all the good tips to educate new blogger. Patience is most needed and with hard work, the reward will come years later. Just need to keep creating useful and value added content.

  54. Good tips for any new blogger who wanted to persist and have success in their blog. Patience is so crucial and we can’t expect result immediately and should keep working on creating on value added content to the readers.

  55. Starting a blog just for money and not for passion could pull a blogger down especially when it takes so long to actualize. It takes patience and passion and handwork as well.

  56. Lack of passion is also one of the major reasons why most bloggers fail online, they don’t have any passion for blogging, and they just began blogging because they saw a particular “popular blogger” make six figures blogging. They only went into blogging because of the money.

  57. A great read and very good advise too. I started my blog to share my recipes and food I love to cook. I’ve no advertising on it so no direct income (as of yet!)

  58. If money is the motivation it will fail. The same goes for SEO…if your focused on getting to the top of page one then your not focused on your audience.

  59. I feel that this article could be applied to so many other things in life than blogging. Thank you so much for sharing your insights and your valuable experience.

  60. I always laugh when I see those articles about how easy it is to open a blog and make money straight away. There are so many people who believe it though. But unless you are business orientated and have a clear business plan in mind, it will never work!

  61. I think being lazy is the most common factor these days when people just want it all instantly! I think starting a blog to make a career out of it, thus with money in mind, is a good reason to start actually and then, if you fail it is because you are not treating your blog like a business

  62. These are all great and very true! Blogging isn’t something that just happens overnight. You have to work and really grow a following. I have been blogging for three years now and I love it!

  63. You have come up with such a great list, and passion is what really jumps out at me. If you’re not passionate about what you’re blogging about, it’s really not going to work. Thanks so much for sharing. It’s a great resource for bloggers who are thinking about diving in.

  64. Love all of the points you’ve made in this post but number 2 stands out the most to me – being passionate. I truly think that’s the most important part about anyone’s blog. If you’re passionate and patient and willing to put in the hours then everything will eventually fall into place. 🙂

  65. Such a good post, thank you! I have been blogging for about 5 months now and hope to monetize it but have realized patience is important. It’s a lot of work and very time consuming. Thankfully I really enjoy it!

  66. So true. While I started my blog with the intention of putting my thoughts out there, I did expect to make quick money. I have over the months come to terms with the fact that it takes a lot of time and patience to make money without making my website looking like it made a sales pitch every para or so

  67. ahhh patience. In a world where we forget to be patient and that good things take time, I’m glad you pointed out that this is not an overnight thing. it takes time to build an audience. it takes time to find your voice. it takes time to do all the things … patience, grasshopper.

  68. A big reason for failure is Lack of Consistency. You may get a ton of hits and Affiliate activity one week, but you can’t kick back and rest. You need to continually come up with new and original content.

  69. Ive been blogging 4 years and this all very true..Mine has not monetized much do to other reasons..certainly not from a lack of passion. It is a patience game.but it also takes a lot of skill for certain tasks and if you cant afford to hire them out, then that causes a fail also…

I’m treating mine like a hobby now…its just too much stress trying to monetize

  70. This is so true. I’m actually on my third blog. It wasn’t that I wasn’t passionate about the last ones but I just lost patience. And it wasn’t because I was looking to make fast and easy cash, it was more because I lacked a purpose for why I was writing about what I liked. For me, it was more about the direction I was going with the blog. Great post!

  71. These are great reasons and ones I think would be great for some people to hear so they don’t get frustrated or do it for the wrong reasons. Do it because you love it, not because you want money and think it will just happen right away.

  72. Those are all true.
And it is very important that you enjoy blogging and have some fun with it.
But earning an extra buck or two is also nice whem you get it. 😉

  73. I have had my blog for a few years now and my biggest obstacle to move it forward is not enough time to sit down and create content. I will have to revamp my schedule so that I can focus more on my blog. I know success is just around the corner. I have to be patient and persist.

  74. I totally agree with you, blogging for money and having no passion for what you are blogging about is an express way to failure

  75. Patience is very important in everything we do, most especially in blogging. As we all know, success doesn’t happen overnight. It needs time and hardwork to grow.

  76. Couldn’t agree more with the points you’ve mentioned! You can’t make money from blogging, eventually and it takes a lot of time, effort and strategies!

  77. I always laugh when I see those articles about how easy it is to open a blog and make money straight away. If you’re passionate and patient and willing to put in the hours then everything will eventually fall into place.
